Student Council
Prior to spring break, student council sent out a flyer and template for a t-shirt design challenge. The winner will have their design on a shirt to be offered for SASC spirit wear next year.
Designs are due to Ms. Melissa at [email protected] , by May 15th. The new flyer and template were emailed today.
-Readworks is a free website that families can create their own login to use and explore. If you cannot access some of the assignments through Readworks, make sure you have created a log-in for your scholar.
-Math assignments follow the book . Links for the online version of assignments have also been put in the lessons if you prefer to do it online.
-This week, answer keys have been provided when needed. You should find them within each topic.
-In the Academic Padlet, you will find a “Scholar Share” folder. If any scholars are wishing to share their work with other scholars, make sure to upload it here. SCHOLARS ARE NOT CURRENTLY REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS... YOU MAY SUBMIT IF YOU ARE WANTING FEEDBACK.
Remember, we have created lessons for four days in order to give families a fifth day to catch-up on assignments and to explore academics through other resources, including the online platforms we have set up.

FIELD DAY IS HAPPENING THIS FRIDAY!!
Please be sure to check the weather and have your scholar dress accordingly. Your scholar should bring a water bottle. Also, we recommend applying sunscreen at home prior to leaving for school.
ELA
In addition to continued reading skills work, we are working to refine our writing skills in preparation for the April 1st FSA writing test. We noticed the writing that was sent home last week for homework was only returned by a few scholars. Therefore, we will not sent new homework this week. We are hoping that this week you will work with your scholar to produce the writing based on the information below.
Homework: Practice FSA writing
Here is an outline of what components the essay should have.
A minimum of 4 paragraphs (Four if they choose 2 main ideas to support. Five if they choose 3 main ideas to support)
An Introduction paragraph that includes : grabber sentence (can be sound word, question, fact, quote, dialogue, etc) , restatement of the prompt, states the main ideas that will be discussed
Two or Three Body paragraphs that includes: Transitional word or phrase to start the paragraph, topic sentence, evidence from the text, explain why the evidence from the text supports your main idea, add a personal statement
A concluding paragraph that includes: A transitional phrase that ends the paper (To sum it up, In conclusion, Finally, Lastly, etc), restatement of the prompt and main ideas supported.
Some examples of sentence starters for providing evidence from the text: The author claims, The text states, For example, For instane, According to the text, In passage or In paragraph 4, etc
Some of examples of wording for analysis of text evidence: This shows, This proves that, This demonstrates, This is because, This suggests, etc.
Pleas also have your scholar use indention of paragraphs and be sure they capitalize and punctuate properly.
Math -4th
Scholars are working in topic 13. Topic 13 is converting units. This tends to be a difficult concept for many scholars. Check in with your scholar about their comfort in this topic.
Math-5th
Scholars are working in topic 11. This topic covers the concept of volume.
SASC FIELD DAY 2020
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
OPTIMIST PARK
Friday, March 13
SIGN UP HERE
Sign up by March 9
Join us for a day of connections and games!
Use this form to sign up to volunteer. We have slots available for preparing, managing, and cleaning up stations. You are welcome to sign up for two (or three!) consecutive slots if you want! If you have other family members who wish to volunteer, you may sign them up as well (must be at least 18 years of age). The plan is to have two volunteers at each station.
The first volunteer slot begins at 9:00. The SASC Field Day committee will set up the materials and the 9 am volunteers will receive instructions of how to run the stations. The first group of volunteers will teach the next group. We have overlapped the slots so that there is time for the next group of volunteers to watch and ask questions before taking over.
The first group of students arrives at 9:20 am. Students will rotate through stations. See the schedule below if you wish to volunteer while your child's class is at the park. Please note that each class will visit 6 of the 7 stations so there is a small chance that your child may not visit your station during the event.
SCHEDULE
Morning Rotations + Lunch = All K/1 classrooms + 2/3 Flamingos & Dolphins (FIRST AND SECOND VOLUNTEER SLOTS)
Lunch + Afternoon Rotations = 2/3 Sloths & Ribbits + all 4/5 classrooms + Middle School (THIRD VOLUNTEER SLOT)
School-wide lunch at the park 11:45-12:15

Please do not forget to log your hours!
It’s very helpful to the organization when we apply for grants!
Every potential donor wants to know that we care and participate in our children’s school life.
You are not going in today?! No worries - just hand your donation clearly marked “Teachers’ Lounge” to the staff at drop off/pick up and they will take it

Important Carnival Update:
Please note the SASC WINGS PTSO Spring Carnival has a date change.
Mark your Calendars to attend.
Our 5th Annual Spring Carnival
Friday, April 24.
**NOTE THE DATE CHANGE**
The Carnival Committee is meeting regularly to plan another incredible carnival for us.
They are currently seeking corporate sponsors to help cover the cost of the venue.
Know some college or high school students who need volunteer hours?
Know an organization who had volunteers who could help?
We are hoping for many outside volunteers to run the games and booths.
The more outside volunteers we have, the fewer parents we need!
If you know a company or organization who can help with either of these,
please contact Amy Serles, Committee Chair at [email protected]

Each year WINGS PTSO (formerly SASC PTA) helps to support our 3rd to 6th grade scholars 'Rock the FSA', by providing healthy snacks, freshly pencils and erasers for every test they take!
We need your help making this a possibility again this year!
Please consider donating to our FSA SNACK FUND, every little bit helps!
