Hello Phoenix families!!! I want to invite you all to upload any art your scholar's have done into my shared google drive by clicking the link below so that we can have a virtual art show the last week of school. It can be anything they have done all year and should be something they are proud of and that is school appropriate. Looking forward to seeing all of your art. Wishing you well.

A MESSAGE FROM MS. DONNA:
Hi Parents and SASC Students,
Wishing everyone well.
This is Donna Wooland, the gardening teacher at SASC.
I am very excited to share one of my lessons with you!
In an upcoming video, I will be introducing my students to an oral history lesson.
As an elementary student, I was assigned a lesson similar to this.
It was one of my favorite assignments.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I will be asking students to interview a person in their family, neighbors, and/or friends about gardening or a gardening story from when they were growing up.
Parents: The stories can be ones you heard from your parents, grandparents or friends. I would like to compile these oral histories into an SASC gardening memories book. The interviews can be in person, phone calls, emails, FaceTime, letters, etc. Please email stories and/or pictures to me at [email protected].
Here’s an example of an oral history that just happened to me at SASC: In January, a couple parents saw me carrying the stalks of sugar cane into school.
I saw their face light up and I heard:
1). “In India, we have sugar cane similar to this...”
2). “I had to wear socks on my hands when we cut the sugar cane.”
3). “When I was a child, we....”
4). “I remember....”
Would you please help your child write, use FaceTime or other, compile a story or stories, and/or video a garden story?
Some examples of questions students can ask:
Did you have a garden when you were growing up?
What kind of fruit or vegetables were in your garden?
What was your favorite thing to eat in your garden?
How did you wash it?
With whom did you plant?
Did you have any special fruit on holidays?
Could you tell me something you did in the garden?
Did you have any gardening chores?
How are gardens, yards, fruit, and vegetables different in your country?
Thank you so much for helping me!
Donna Wooland
